Decision Desk HQ Welcomes Elections Reporter and Analyst Derek Willis as Editor of Weekly Newsletter

September 30, 2021

Decision Desk HQ, the leading provider of election results and related data in the United States, is proud to announce that veteran journalist and data analyst Derek Willis has joined our team as writer and editor of our weekly newsletter.

Each Monday the hundreds of thousands of subscribers to DDHQ’s free weekly newsletter can look forward to not just the latest in election news, but also insights into the world of campaign finance and election administration.

“When we saw Derek was leaving ProPublica for a teaching position at the University of Maryland I immediately reached out to him. He’s one of the most experienced and respected writers on the most important hot button issues in and around American elections. It’s a real coup for us to bring him on board and be able to have him share his insights and keen eye for a story with our readers. His focus will be on the weekly newsletter, which will have new features under his leadership, but we have more projects in the works we’re excited about having him part of as well. This is just the start of our expansion plans heading into 2022.” - Drew McCoy, President of Decision Desk HQ.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity.”, Willis said. “Joining the Decision Desk HQ team was an easy call: they have a large and well-informed audience passionate about the topics I care about and I can’t wait to learn from them. It’s a great way for me to remain active in the election community and I hope to build on the newsletter’s record of providing smart analysis and useful information.”

In the Monday, October 4th edition of the Decision Desk HQ newsletter Derek Willis has a Q and A with Professor Michael Bitzer (@bowtiepolitics) of Old North State Politics, a leading authority on North Carolina politics. The two will discuss the state of redistricting in the state and Bitzer’s new book, “Redistricting and Gerrymandering in North Carolina: Battlelines in the Tar Heel State”. We’ll also be introducing a new feature that takes a look at the good, the bad, and really strange in political fundraising emails.
