Confirmation Vote of Elaine Chao for Secretary of Transportation

Committee meetings are running long today for both the recommendation votes on Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions and Secretary of Education nominee Betsy DeVos. Once both wrap up, the action moves back to the floor, to confirm, or not confirm, Elaine Chao at 12:15pm

Mrs. Chao is the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, liked by members in both parties, and has already served as Secretary of Labor under George W. Bush. She received an easy voice vote in committee and should expect at least 2/3rds support from the full body.

Update 12:28 PM Bill Nelson tries to argue the HHS nominee boycott was partly because of “new information”. Recommends the approval of Secretary Chao.

Update 12:34 PM Vote has begun

Update 12:46PM Chao has been confirmed.

Update- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer votes no. That probably won’t sit well with McConnell.
