Ohio Republican Congressman Jim Renacci Enters Governor’s Race

Four term Congressman Jim Renacci becomes the third Ohio Republican to launch a bid to replace term limited Republican Governor John Kasich.

Renacci is hoping to recreate the success of Donald Trump with his campaign website OhioFirst.com and focusing on his previous business success.

For far too long, career politicians in Washington and Columbus have put themselves first, passing laws and regulations that they’ve never lived under and that they clearly don’t understand. I’ve spent most of the past four decades building a business rather than building a political career, and I’m proud to have created over 1,500 jobs in our state and to have employed over 3,000 Ohioans.

Trump carried Renacci’s district (OH-16) by 16%, while Renacci won it by 31%.

Several other candidates have already announced for both party’s primaries.

Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor filed her paperwork last month. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Secretary of State Jon Husted are two other GOP contenders expected to join the race soon.

On the Democratic side, former State Rep. Connie Pillich, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni and former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton have declared bids.

An interesting side note, Renacci won his second term in 2012 over Sutton when the post 2010 redistricting placed both members in the same district.
