Republican Leads in First Montana Congressional Poll

While a lot of focus has been on Georgia’s 6th district, there are three other Republican-held seats with special elections: South Carolina’s 5th, Kanas’ 4th, and the at-large district in Montana. In that last one, last year’s Republican Gubernatorial candidate Greg Gianforte faces off against Democrat and Montana musician Rob Quest to fill the seat vacated by now-Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.

Gravis Marketing has released the first poll we’ve seen for this contest, and it finds Gianforte with a twelve-point edge lead on Quist, 50% to 38%. Gravis also polled the approval ratings of President Trump and several statewide Demorats. Trump, who carried the state overwhelmingly in 2016, sports 50%/42% approval. Democratic U.S. Senator Jon Tester enjoys 43%/35% approval. Tester faces re-election next year and will be a top target for Republicans itching to gain seats. The Senator has faced close contests before, winning both his initial run in 2006 and re-election in 2012.

The special election will be held on May 25th.
