Residents in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District had until March 20th to register to vote and participate in the special election. Per Candice Broce, Press Secretary for Brian Kemp (Georgia’s Secretary of State), the total number of active registered voters is set at 438,429. This tally is less than 2,000 voters higher than the official active release from March 1st, so despite a small surge at the onset of the race, the wave of new registrations slackened as the deadline approached.
Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff is hoping for an unlikely first-round win against a field of seventeen other candidates, including Republicans Karen Handel and Rob Gray. The initial vote is on April 18th.
