Keeping an eye on Cabinet nominations

With all of President Trump’s nominees who had been waiting for floor votes before President’s Day confirmed (see how the 2018 Senators voted for each of them here), it’s going to be a rather quiet week on that front. Seema Verma, Trump’s pick for administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, was recommended by the Senate Finance Committee Thursday by a party-line 13-12 vote. Mrs. Verma was instrumental in Indiana’s unique expansion of Medicaid under Governor Mitch Daniels, and will likely earn final confirmation on a party-line vote. There have been no hearings yet set for either Labor nominee Alexander Acosta or Agricultural nominee Sonny Perdue. In the event any are scheduled, or the Verma nomination comes to the floor, we will be covering them in real time.

Los Angeles Mayoral Primary- Tuesday

Eric Garcetti is expected to win a second term outright tomorrow, as none of the also-rans even approach 10% of the vote per the only poll we have on the race. But just in case, we will cover the election starting at 1045pm EST Tuesday, and will cover a general election runoff on May 16th if typically disinterested Angelenos decides to throw him a curveball.

Special Election tracking

We broke late Friday the news about a voter registration bump in Georgia’s Sixth District, and already covered the Democrats’ nomination of Rob Quist for Montana’s At-Large race. Today, it is the Republicans’ turn in Montana, and we will be keeping an eye on that convention this afternoon. Any further candidate announcements, spending, or news will also be followed as we begin to approach the Spring rush of primaries and elections.
